what to expect from a job within marketing
Meet Anne-Sophie! Anne-Sophie works as a Digital Marketing Assistant in a UK-based company within the healthcare industry and would like to share with us her experiences.
What are your responsibilities within the company?
I’m working as the Digital Marketing Assistant in a UK based-company that has four different divisions within the healthcare industry. Our digital platforms include social media profiles, websites and newsletters for all divisions and it’s my responsibility to make sure that all of these are updated regularly.
Additionally, I also look into the analytics on all the digital platforms in order to measure and track the results from our marketing activities and to understand our target audience better so that we can improve our content to fit their needs and interests.
Finally, I’m improving our SEO on all our websites by using advertising tools such as Google AdWords and Google Analytics in order to optimise our visibility on Google searches.
What does a usual day at the office look like?
I always start my day by catching up on our social media platforms on news, articles and blogs as well as our on own posts.
My manager will then let me know if there’s anything urgent that needs to be done. That could typically be content on our websites that needs to be changed or updated. After that I’ll have a weekly to-do list of tasks that needs to be done such as blog content, social media posts and researching keywords to improve our SEO for our websites.
What is the most important thing that you learned at university that you’re applying to your job?
The most important thing that I’ve taken with me from my university is the ability to analyse and interpret data and on the basis of that develop a strategy of how to do things better in the future. Also, the importance of being able to measure data and setting up goals for our marketing activities is a skill that I definitely use every day in my job.
How did you get your job?
I got my job by searching on Google after marketing-related jobs. Once I had sent my application, I went for an interview a few weeks later where I had to do a presentation on how to market the company on social media. I was told that it was the ability to do a detailed market analysis that made me the right candidate for the job.
That being said, being a foreigner in a new country made it quite difficult for me to find a job. It was definitely a learning process to figure out how the British job market worked in terms of what skills and knowledge were important to emphasize on a job application as well as in an interview.
